Super rich colours .. & Bold ! .. Superb captures ! Am sure my genius artisto Czech Mex pal Richard will admire .. You don’t have a rectilinear correct lens ? Thought you did .. ? Loved my Nikkor Micro, as much of my early work was Archival Art shootin - almost invariably colour - even shootin Stills for Canada Council ‘Video Art’ for Grant Applications plus archival prints.. Oddly too - often had to shoot Docu of my own ‘Decorative Photos ‘in situ’ per Architecture & Design clients - that I had printed giant Cibachromes of .. truly weird & even confusing - looking through the 35 mm viewfinder in Toronto at scenes shot in Dallas or New York with 4x5 transparencies - I’d printed in Toronto
Would love to have shot more art by actual Artists back then & also more Design & Architecture & ‘Product or even Food too !
My rectilinear lens is my Zeiss. I probably could have used it here, but the shop is full and I would have had to move many things in order to get back far enough to get the Chichicov in frame. I went with the zoom, it was a quicker.
.. hardly an issue eh - 5 AM & i was snorkelling in the colourations of the two artists again - & any bidder who’s looking at the borders & frames & not lusting over the artistry - does not deserve either
I hope you get both .. the more I look at them the more I desire both !
The upside is this .. ! My son Dylan has possession of our most cherished painting by our pal Richard Cortes - It’s survived the years, tears, travels, divorce, storage & ideally will soon be hung in his new home - it’s unframed .. or should I say ‘unsaddled .. ? Will endeavour to ensure a truly high end File and/or Print gallops down your way.. with a personal note from Richard
Will likely create a Post with images re the Gord Lightfoot Auction - today or tomorrow & related ‘Note - but must walk soft.. so’s to not offend family or anyone else.. & tag you relative to how I approach ‘my take’ on the Auction Process itself !
‘took’ mebbe 250 - 300 + screencaps - (some ‘sequential as bids came in) + shot iphone off my iPad for brief ‘sound clips from auctioneers between 12 noon & 6:30 PM - be bits of useful but marginal ‘sync video’ with those iPhone clips - Will ‘share one or two via Post or Notes mebbe today ! - But give you ‘insider access & you’ll laugh out loud re ‘private comments only I’m privy to’ regarding the astonishing Turkoise jewelry.. or earlier on - when she Sold Gord’s Home
Any support you can muster tracking down ‘anecdotes per the Auction be mucho appreciated .. haha - Who is Bidder 100 ? Attended the Sale in Dallas - or who scored the various Guitars ? There’s a subsequent 400 + Lots to be auctioned next week.. There’s several ‘other stories’ running parallel & duly noted the number of ‘abject liars’ out there trying to capitalize someway or another - no surprise ..
"Ars Gratia Artis" has been the motto of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures since it started in 1924.
Certainly, but use of the phrase pre-dates MGM.
I love love LOVE that painting by Shelbee Mares.
I do too!
Beautiful work and great to see how you shoot larger pieces
Thank you, Simon. It’s especially fun when the artwork is good.

I’d be happy with either one. Enjoyed seeing what goes into photographing them.
Thank you, Monica.
