Maybe! Elizabeth Gilbert has a story about a novel she wanted to write but life interfered (as it tends to do with Elizabeth Gilbert!). The novel idea then materialized in the mind of novelist Ann Patchett. Gilbert tells this story in her book Big Magic. Make of that what you will!!
Hey great novel ideas, I’m right here (waves arm wildly)!
that reply fired off prematurely .. ! .. have heard tell ‘mom (a Barrett by Name) did have the creativity) And without a doubt was the women in the Cassin & O’Donnell clans were publishing - writers - poets - hoteliers - nurses - artists - moms and grandmothers - Irish Immigrants - even stowaways - to USA & Canada - the men were lumbermen trainmen farmers initially.. worked their way to The Dakotas & Prairie Canada ..
If we want to be immortal we can do so by creating things: making art, taking pictures, writing books, recording songs.
That way a piece of us stays behind when we leave.
So if a song, a book, a picture, a painting etc inspires someone else then the talent of the original creator kind of "filters" through another artist into a new creation, and so on like a chain.
That there's a creative afterlife is a profound statement. If one is inclined to believe there's a place for the soul, then rightfully there should be another for creativity too. Whether a direct connection of listening or catching a prevailing wind that carries it aloft.
All valid and worthy of being the recipient of such reward.
I am not sure that there is a creative afterlife, per se, But I wonder about the talent, and what becomes of it. I find it difficult to believe that such things die with the man.
Thank you so much for sharing this! Great videos! I saw the Dead in concert many times. Plus, Bob Weir and Jerry Garica in their separate shows. This was pre-gray hair time 😹🩶
‘substack was truly erratic regarding my simple endeavours today ! This Post ‘made my day’ in more ways than one - by far & away ! Fab ‘commentary repartee & ‘off Planet - Live Music Performance Music Video.. before the App & Algorithm ‘ate’ part of my last comment & restack.. Turn up The VOLUME ‼️
Phenomenal Stuff or What.. ? I knew nothin re Grateful Dead till several years ago .. Bob Weir even less ! Have come to really & truly appreciate ‘the Dead .. but based on that Clip would take Bob Weir anytime by a ‘country mile ! Keep in mind I’ve zero musical talent - aside from being Canada’s very first VJ/DJ while opening The Silver City Saloon in Banff, Alberta, Canada ! People flipped when I played my New Riders of The Purple Sage & The Byrds LP’s & downlinked MTV via sat dish on the roof ! That track Slays.. !
Anne slyly mentions booking Lightfoot there - thus I duly looked & 1998 is easily found via Youtube.. have yet to view & have already hijacked yer bodacious Documentation.. call me Grateful eh ! Bob Weir woulda been a fabulous ‘Play ! Will be sure as shootin - will Share with 🦎🏴☠️📡
There’s a theory that talent and creativity are out there, waiting for an open vessel. I love that.
Thank you, Martha. Then the question becomes, does the talent choose the vessel?

Anyway, that's how I think of it.
Very true.
